14.2.2022

Archipelago Sea Jazz festival series serves high-class jazz events in the Baltic Sea archipelago during the summer. Pre-tickets are sold from Monday 14 February.

Archipelago Sea Jazz is formed around the archipelago’s unique appeal and quality jazz music. The ambitious festival series combines two well established festivals, Baltic Jazz and Korpo Sea Jazz and newer festivals Turku Sea Jazz and Åland Sea Jazz.

The festival series is kicked off with Baltic Jazz on 8-10 July in the charming ironworks surroundings of Dalsbruk on Kimito Island. At this family-friendly festival, the audience will be treated to the pearls of dixieland with Estonian Dixieland Band (EST) feat. Airi Allvee and a reunion of members from Erik Lindström’s Dream Team to celebrate his 100th anniversary. A couple of silent short films by Charlie Chaplin will be accompanied by live music and Antti Sarpila on the piano, as well as an entr’acte by the Finnish grande dame of Classic Jazz, vocalist Shirley Sparks. The programme for Saturday and further artists will be published in early March.

Korpo Sea Jazz continues the series on 20–24 July. The modern and bold program consists of top Finnish performances which are tailored specifically for this event. The festival spreads around Korpo’s islands and a new concert venue is Jazz Café AXO in the center of Pargas. Artistic director of this intimate festival is internationally known trumpetist Tomi Nikku.

Turku Sea Jazz oozes urban marine ambiance. Festival is organized in the Forum Marinum Maritime Centre’s area on 29–30 July. First published artists are Pepe Willberg & Jukka Eskola Statement. In the concert we hear a compilation of two cult albums, En soisi sen päättyvän and Niin vähän on aikaa by Otto Donner. Jukka Perko PreBoppers offer groovy and traditional American jazz. Along with quality music the festival offers culinary experiences in collaboration with Turku Food & Wine Festival. The program will be completed during spring with interesting Finnish and international artists.

Åland Sea Jazz ends the festival series on 5–6 August in Mariehamn. First artist bookings are master pianist Vladimir “Vova” Shafranov with his band and one of the top Finnish singers, Aili Ikonen and her ensemble who pay respect to the biggest singer star of jazz history, Ella Fitzgerald. Friday’s artists are to be published during springtime.

Archipelago Sea Jazz works for environmentally sustainable cultural production. John Nurminen Foundation is our partner with a mission to save the Baltic Sea and its legacy for future generations. Their work can be supported with a donation when purchasing a ticket in Tiketti.
