The Sea and Jazz as Sources of Well-being!
19.6.2024
The Archipelago Sea Jazz festival series and the John Nurminen Foundation share a love for the sea and concern for its well-being. Saving the Baltic Sea requires cooperation and examples of both small and large actions. During this summer’s jazz festivals, the John Nurminen Foundation will lead discussions about the Baltic Sea as a source of inspiration and well-being in art, food, and summer leisure activities.
Turku Sea Jazz, held at the turn of July and August, kicks off with a free, all-ages event at the Church Park Terrace by the Aura River on Wednesday, July 31st at 6 PM, in collaboration with the John Nurminen Foundation. The evening begins with the album release concert “Blanc Lines” by Josu Mämmi & Ukko Heinonen, followed by the Turku-based funk quartet Puños.
During the intermission at 7 PM, a Baltic Sea themed discussion (in Finnish) will be held, where expert guests will ponder the well-being effects of the sea. Discussing the inspiration from the Baltic Sea, sustainable urban and archipelago tourism, local culture, and food will be PhD researcher Susanna Saari from Turku University of Applied Sciences, Janne Juvonen, CEO of the VoiVeljet restaurant chain, and Jussi Fredriksson, executive director of Jazz City Turku and jazz musician. The discussion will be led by John Nurminen Foundation’s producer Maija Soljanlahti. The event is weather dependent.
The core values of the Archipelago Sea Jazz festival family are responsibility and especially the protection of the Baltic Sea. The event series in Kemiönsaari, Korpo, Turku, and Mariehamn aims to impact the environment’s well-being both locally and across the Baltic Sea region by promoting sustainable archipelago tourism and cultural services. The John Nurminen Foundation is one of the festival series’ environmental partners, and you can participate in the Baltic Sea rescue operation by supporting the foundation’s work when purchasing festival tickets on Tiketti.fi.
